Baptism and Confirmation

Whenever it happens, whether as a baby, child or adult, baptism is at the heart of an amazing journey of faith as a follower of Jesus Christ. In the Church of England baptism is offered to infants with parents and godparents agreeing to raise the child as a Christian - this is sometimes called a christening. You are never too old to take the step of being baptized as an adult.
There are always special ways to renew the promises that were made at your Baptism in a fresh way as you discover more about what it means to live them out as a follower of Jesus. This may mean seeking to get Confirmed – a service of blessing, reaffirmation of vows, public declaration of faith in Jesus, and admission into Holy Communion.

Weddings

Getting married is one of the most joyful and serious decisions we make in life. As well as being a big commitment, it has an impact on family, friends and the whole of society for the good. Here’s what the Church of England believes regarding marriage (Also called Holy Matrimony)

"The Church of England affirms, according to our Lord's teaching, that marriage is in its nature a union permanent and lifelong, for better for worse, till death them do part, of one man with one woman, to the exclusion of all others on either side, for the procreation and nurture of children, for the hallowing and right direction of the natural instincts and affections, and for the mutual society, help and comfort which the one ought to have of the other, both in prosperity and adversity."

Funerals

If someone you know and love has died, a funeral can be led by your local Church of England minister. The service can be held in church, by the graveside at one of the local council cemeteries, or at a crematorium. We will be there to support you in organizing the service and walking with you during the difficult time of bereavement.

Please note that the churchyard and memorial garden at St Mary’s Burton Latimer are closed to new burials and internment of ashes.
